2008 Romney Consultant Bashes Appeal of Gov. Huckabee & Gov. Palin

In a CNN article released July 26th, Alex Castellanos who was a political consultant for Mitt Romney’s 2008 presidential bid said that:

“We’re going to have a division in the Right in the Republican Party,” Castellanos told CNN Chief National Correspondent John King, “We now have two Mike Huckabees – people who have a powerful force in the party but can’t get out of the party in a general election and win.” (source)

Of course there is going to be division when GOP strategists connected to Romney start bashing the prospects of Governor Huckabee and Governor Palin. Seeing how Huckabee, Romney, and Palin lead 2012 discussion, it appears that Alex Castellanos is trying to do his 2008 client Mitt Romney a favor by bashing appeal of others in his way. How does that contribute to party unity? How does that advance the cause of conservatism and turn back the tide of dangerous legislation flowing out of Washington, DC?

Also, it is important to note that Gov. Huckabee has consistently shown higher favoribilty ratings among Independents than Mitt Romney. The facts show that Huckabee and not Romney have more cross-appeal yet I doubt we will see Castellanoes criticizing Mitt Romney anytime soon.
